Haiku poetry originated from Japanese culture. A Haiku poem is a short, but meaningful poem. A Haiku poem is usually based on nature and animals. A Haiku poem does not have to rhyme. a common Haiku poem has only 3 short lines. the first line consists of five syllables, the second line has seven syllables, and the third line consists of 5 syllables. A Haiku poem is meant to draw a mental picture in a persons mind. the word Haiku is pronounced (Hi-coo). Here is an example

I see a dog run 
It leaps, it jumps, It's gone, wow
Where did the dog go
